In 2010 my wife and I started a personal growth program for teens. Our goal was to create a structured environment for teens who desired to befriend other teens who cared about defining and pursuing their success. We adapted the vision of the Success Foundation, who graciously provided copies of their book, which you can download here: Success For Teens e-book.
We included teens in grades 7 through 12; we wanted to engage the younger teens since they were beginning to develop their social priorities and habits. We asked business and civic leaders to relate a principle to the teens that they were most passionate about — something they wish they’d known when they were teens. The results were amazing. We called it East Idaho Success For Teens. Find our first two years at East Idaho Success for Teens.
Spring of 2012, the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce decided to adopt our EISFT into their Leadership Program. We renamed it Success For Youth, because the grand vision includes segments for K-6, junior high, senior high, and 18 – 21. We recently completed our first year as SFY, and the chamber featured SFY at their forum luncheon where teens, parents, and business leaders testified to the power of people coming together to encourage local youth! Our community has proven, once again, that it is blessed with many giving, selfless professionals who value the long term rewards of inspiring youth to not just dream big, but offer them the tools and relationships to achieve big dreams!
Fall 2013 one of the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce members, Idaho Central Credit Union, sponsored a new set of books for our youth – the book and corresponding Personal Workbook for Sean Covey’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. We are excited to take SFY – and the future success of our youth – to the next level!
